RB: The Past Finds a Way to Live in the Present: G.W., the 1864 Battle of Franklin and the Infamous Stringduster Song Three Days in July

I am starting today earlier with a blog since RB woke the headknocker up early this morning.  LB would prefer waking up to that bear barking next door, masquerading as a Newfoundland dog.  RB had a couple things that it wanted to tell LB.  First, and this will have to be discussed in a subsequent blog, RB said "If you have to think all the time, think about something important".  That was said about 100 times. Most folks are not as finely attuned as LB to this incessant brain chatter.  The second statement repeated just a few times is something  LB does not fully understand, something like "The past finds a way to live in the present".   RB said tell them about G.W. and the Infamous Stringduster's song Three Days in July.

G.W. (George Washington Black) was an ancestor who was a soldier in General Hood's Army of Tennessee during the American Civil War.  He was my great, great grand-father from my mother's mother, and he would be Andy's great, great, great grand-father.  In November 1864, he was a few miles from where I sit now participating in the Battle of Franklin.  This is a passage from the family history that describes what happened:

"In the Battle of Franklin, Washington fought alongside his friend, Samuel  Kimmins Poore. During the battle there was snow on the ground, and neither man had shoes.   As they marched they could look back over their shoulders , and see that the footprints in the snow were pink with their blood.  Their feet were severely frostbitten, and as a result, Washington was crippled for the rest of his life.  He could not even wear shoes"

The Infamous Stringduster song "Three Days in July" is about a confederate soldier wounded in battle, wearing no shoes, who is given the pair being worn by a teenager who finds him laying on the battlefield.  It can be listened to for free at the Stringduster myspace page. The Infamous Stringdusters on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads

Anyone who is not familiar with the Battle of Franklin may find this summary to be interesting:

The ancestors discussed in a prior post are my mother's father' line. There are many lines and even more stories.   RB Wants to Tell a Story/VZ/Posts on Tax Issues relating to Equity and Trust Preferred Stock and Deferral of Cumulative Preferred Dividends
