ReplyDeleteStarted to read through. So Obama finally has used controversial words... to tell truth. That is exactly what the Grifting Typhoon is. He can't spell. He was trying for tycoon.
Land: Obama did not publicly use those words. Obama knows that calling Trump names, no matter how factually justified, will not cause republicans to change their minds about Trump, and actually see him for him for what he obviously is, but only dig in more.
DeleteSure, Trump is a fraud and grifter, a liar, an enemy of America's democracy, possessing a classic authoritarian personality and is an undeniable sociopath.
All of those characteristics are obvious.
Yet there is nothing that could be said, no amount of facts that could be mustered that would convince his true believers of those obvious personality flaws.
I would view any effort along those lines as entirely futile and a total waste of time.
Facts really do not matter in Trump's America and never will.
True to all of that. I thought he said it to a journalist. But in private fits better. So one more person added the "he's a f'ing moron" exclamations.
DeleteI never thought much about which state I live in... it's 50 united states. But it's nice to have less access the that fact-free crowd here.
Of course there's the far left with their fact free elements... while thinking they are fact-filled. And their antivaxxers too.

How did I miss this. F is at 14.50. I bought at 17 and I think first batch at 14.
15.04 average. It'll be so temping to sell at break even. But if it's on a roll, that'd been a mistake every time. When they add div's back, it will climb again.
I'm under by <$1000. That's a ! from where it's been.
Land: Ford is doing now what needs to be done.
DeleteIt is my understanding that Obama's remarks were made in "private" when talking to donors or advisors. The comments can be found in a new book, Battle for the Soul, written by Edward-Isaac Dovere who is a journalist.
https://www.amazon.com/Battle-Soul-Inside-Democrats-Campaigns-ebook/dp/B08K7K5M7N
In addition to calling Trump a racist, sexist pig, Obama also referred to him as a "madman", "that fucking lunatic", and a "corrupt motherfucker".
Well can't say I disagree with Obama.
DeleteI wish Obama had announced before the election that Trump was under investigation by FBI. To go with Hillary's investigation.
I like what Ford's doing now. Suddenly I'm noticing GM truck ads a lot.
Not a vote of indice confidence into the weekend.
ReplyDeleteVIX is well under 20 again.
DeleteI stared at the VIX chart for a while yesterday. I can't see a pattern of whether of what's likely.
Land: There is just an abundance of optimism about worldwide growth. That is partly reflected in today's gain crude oil prices that is giving the energy sector a boost.

"abundance of optimism "
DeleteReally? I'd read a few articles about expecting a pullback, which seemed unlikely with everyone expecting one. But if the broader mood is optimism... that's a good contrarian sign for a better place to put in money.
I'd like to take profits in SOXX. Probable is it'd be short term...and it's doubled. So I'd be losing a lot to taxes. So I keep holding for now.
Land: SOXX has done well starting in 2016, except for 2018, and is up 14.32% YTD through last Friday.

I would not say that the baton has been passed from semiconductors to materials and energy.
I would note that the energy ETF FENY is up 41.1% this year through last Friday after being shellacked starting in 2014.

DeleteTrouble typing the words I mean today.
I bought energy in 2014. I think it's bear is finally over. I hope.
Previously, I mentioned that Merck was going to spinoff Organon common stock which is happening today. Organon shares will start trading tomorrow under the symbol "ORN" Merck shareholders will be receiving 1 ORN share for every 10 MRK shares.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.merck.com/news/merck-declares-record-date-and-dividend-for-the-organon-co-spinoff/
I own a few MRK shares but not enough to receive 1 ORN share.
Part of the spinoff is a $9B payment to Merck.
https://www.fiercepharma.com/pharma/organon-lays-out-its-plan-to-investors-while-spinoff-could-lead-to-a-big-m-a-score-for-merck
Organon is large enough that it will be added to the S & P 500 on 6/3/21. HollyFrontier is being removed from that index and demoted the S & P MidCap 400 index.
After I see how Merck trades after the price adjustment, I may buy a few more shares. The tax cost basis will be reduced down to reflect the spinoff.

The Stock Jocks are responding positively to the announcement that ETSY will acquire Depop for $1.625B. I had not heard of that company before today. Apparently, it is based in the UK and is fashion reseller catering to youngsters.
https://seekingalpha.com/news/3702177-etsy-to-acquire-global-fashion-resale-marketplace-depop-for-1625b
I will be discussing ETSY in my next post.
I didn't get ETSY when I checked it out. Though I thought is worth watching. Missed that nice boat.
DeleteHopefully the company I'm planning to hire continues to work out well (have a few questions for them.) Be nice to have this be an easy effort for a fairly big job.
Land: I view as ETSY as overvalued at its current price, but then I am old fashioned when it comes to valuing what a company is worth.
DeleteThere was a substantial decline in price starting in early May when it dawned on the Stock Jocks that growth would slow due to plummeting mask sales.
With the acquisition announced yesterday, which I view as expensive, ETSY is aiming for a younger demographic (average age around 26, compared to 36 or thereabouts for ETSY). Maybe they can convert those younger people into lifelong customers. The company has had some success in converting new customers who bought masks into regular customers for other products.
ETSY is not the kind of stock that I normally would buy. I am limiting myself to no more than 10 shares with each purchase being just 1 share with every purchase required to be at the lowest price in the chain.

The duck shut down his blog due to lack of followers. The next day he made this 'outrageous' statement.

Media fell for it. Meanwhile he didn't get a following. The bots couldn't find him?
